We spent our Memorial Day in City Creek Canyon.
Josh was our fearless trail-leader, Layla slept on Dan's back, and Jack... well, Jack will learn to love new experiences! Even with all the little legs involved, we ended up going pretty far before deciding to turn back. (of course going down took 1/2 the time as going up!)
So, for any local mom-friends at home with other little-legged friends, I am going to try for a hike 2x each month while it's warm. Anyone is welcome, just let me know. OR, tune in for my reviews of our adventures: kid-friendly, trail condition, tips...
If you drive in City Creek Canyon, you will see this duck pond just before the turn to the small parking area that leads to the paved canyon trail. Our chosen trail was on the right of this duck pond. The boys had fun throwing rocks in the water after the hike.
(no ducks were harmed!)
We were on the lookout for any wildlife! We found beetles, ladybugs, and tons of birds. Nothing bigger... but we did have fun finding lots of deer prints.
Dan was a champ. He carried Layla and kept up the rear when Jack would lag, all while not feeling well himself. Good thing you are only as slow as your slowest hiker. We were not going fast at all!
Of course the boys' favorite part was their snack bags: Capri Suns, Goldfish crackers, Laffy Taffy. All the good stuff!
I was proud of my boys. (even sick dad!) It was such a gorgeous day and we loved being together.
Seriously, I will post on FB when and where we will go next. Let's get out there and enjoy the summer!

I'm so jealous. When you go up those nice, cool, beautiful canyons, think of me. :) haha Nah, but honestly that looks like a lot of fun! I like that picture of you and the boys at the end.
Hey - I'm totally game for some hiking, though I'm not sure Ian is quite big enough for his backpack yet. We'll have to see. I'm excited to use the pack, we got it at REI last weekend. So looking forward to being out and about this summer!
wish we were closer and we'd join you! Looks like tons of fun though
I can't wait to see all the places you go! We'll definitely join you sometime.
Is the snack pack included if I come along? I don't have a kiddo but if it is a dog friendly walk, Ava and I might come! You guys are rock stars!
Lindsey, I just found your blog and I am so excited! I think we should go hiking together! Josh and Jack and Gabe would have a blast I think. Seriously, let me know!
That looks like it was well worth playing "hooky" from the family party (at the cemetary). I remember fun hikes up City Creek with you and Ben and Jason, the same ages as your three. Good times!
Looks like fun!
